Collison played the full 120 minutes of the Hammers’ explosive Carling Cup tie with Millwall on Tuesday night only 48 hours after learning of his father’s death.

The brave young lad was seen to plead with the mindless idiots that decided to invade the pitch, to return to the stands, before leaving the field in tears after taking a walk around the ground to thank supporters for their support.

“I just want to thank our fans for their tremendous support at what is such a difficult time for me and my family, Jack told the official site.

“It was incredible.  It is something I will never ever forget and I will be trying my best to repay them on the pitch in all our matches.”
