Full name: Roy Eric Carroll
Height: 6''2'
DOB: 30/09/77
Born: Enniskillen, Northern Ireland
Roy Carroll started his career in 1995 with Hull City, after making 50 appearances he joined Wigan in 1997 for £350,000 and made 170 appearances, 1997 also saw him make his International debut for N Ireland against Thailand. Roy had a fantastic 1999/2000 season, being instrumental in Wigan's unbeaten run of 26 matches, he won the PFA keeper of the season for Div 2.
In 2001 Man Utd paid £2.5million for Roy, with Sir Alex Ferguson calling him one of the most talented young keepers in Britain.
Although he found first team appearances rare Roy won a Premiership medal after Barthez became injured. Roy's cameo appearances throughout the season won rave reviews with the Man Utd Management and press alike.
Last season was a difficult one for Roy, with two well-publicised mistakes against Milan and Tottenham. Despite that his record of 15 cleans sheets and conceding 16 goals in 26 Premier appearances was amongst the best in the division.
I have no doubt that a similar record this coming season would make him an icon with the West ham faithful.
