"When I heard the news I was very disappointed. It's a sad, sad day for the club," he told the London Evening Standard.
"To me Joey was priceless and what they are doing at that club is a disgrace. The fans deserve better.
"To be honest it hurts me to see what is happening. They have sold Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Cole, Freddie Kanoute, Glen Johnson, Trevor Sinclair.
"Where are they going? What are they doing? It's just very sad to see."
