West Ham have announced the signing of French midfielder Edouard Cisse on loan from Paris St Germain in a year-long deal, with a possible permanent deal at the end of that time.

Glenn seems very pleased with his latest signing, as he told the club's site: "He had a day with us last week, he really caught our imagination and we his. I first saw him a couple of years ago, and although I wasn't going to watch him, he always caught the eye.

"He is 6'1", has made 120 or so starts for PSG, and has played in the Champions' League and the UEFA cup."

It is perhaps surprising that a relatively young player (he's only 24) that has played 118 games with both PSG and Rennes is being allowed to leave the club, but Glenn supposes that it is due to the fact that there is a relatively new manager who has a large squad.

Cisse has been used to competition for places, and Glenn says that will not stop at West Ham:

"Eduard is a versatile player who can play in the central areas of midfield, and also tucked in as well. He comes from a big squad at PSG and he knows the situation - but he is here to play first team football.

"If he really impresses we will give him a permanent deal, and a fee has already been agreed if it comes to that. This is the way Fredi came to the club, and we are hoping Edouard will be just as successful.

"We have some excellent midfield players; Joe Cole, Trevor Sinclair, Michael Carrick, Steve Lomas, Don Hutchison, Richard Garcia pushing on and improving, and John Moncur not giving up without a fight in his last season. But hopefully Edouard can bring more competition because I want to create a situation where players know they have to perform."

His signing appears to be another good move by Glenn, with his experience at a relatively young age. Hopefully he will work out as well as Fredi Kanoute who eventually signed for West Ham after a loan with a view to a permanent move.
