Roeder vows to fight on

"It was very difficult to watch, excruciating at times," said Roeder.

"We were abysmal and had some players who simply didn't have the stomach for a fight.

"There's always a time to raise your voice in the dressing room and there are certain players who got the blast they deserved.

"You can say wonderful things about Manchester United's skill, their passing and their movement, but not much is said about their work-rate, drive and desire.

"Those are the easy things to bring to the table and qualities that should be expected of every player. But we showed hardly any of that.

"We let our fans down. They got up early to travel here, they expected a good day out, but we let them down and I can only apologise for that.

"Sir Alex was very encouraging afterwards but what he said will remain private. I'm a good listener and all I'll say is that he was very supportive.

"Each defeat is not helping my position but I've never been one to give up on anything and I never will be."

West Ham are now looking for at least four points from their next two home games, against Blackburn on Wednesday and Liverpool on Sunday, otherwise their Premiership status will also be very questionable.
