The Hammers board approached Reading on Friday morning about talking to Pardew to replace the sacked Glenn Roeder.
However, Royals chairman John Madejski told the official Reading website: "I was approached this morning by West Ham United asking for permission to speak to our manager about the vacant managerial position and I said no."
