“My job will be to aim as high as we can in the Premier League and not to say fourth from bottom is enough,” Sam told the official site. “Let’s see how far we can get this team at the first time of asking.
“The real challenge for me is to prepare the team for the best possible start for the first ten games. That will take the pressure off as you’re not in a relegation position every week, which is a constant gnaw at the player’s confidence. That’s the way forward if we can achieve it.
“As always when in the Premier League it’s tough to get results but as long as you’re trying your best and the West Ham fans know the players are trying their best you’ll be OK.
“We know we won’t win as many games as we’ve won this season but if we get the right team together and the right team spirit we’ll give it a right good go.”
