Second Pardew approach rejected

Caretaker boss Trevor Brooking has confirmed that the Hammers were seeking permission to speak to Pardew over the possibility of him taking over from the sacked Glenn Roeder, but the Reading board have refused permission for a second time.

“You have got to go through the system of asking permission and that has been rejected," Brooking told the West Ham official website.

“I think if we can get the right person we should do that, someone who knows the division, because to try and bounce back in the first season is essential if we can and I think it needs that knowledge and experience of how this division works.

“We will naturally see how it moves on this week but in the meantime I am caretaker manager and I shall try and prepare for the Reading game as I have done in the previous games. We want to try and make sure we stay in that top half a dozen at the top of the table."
