Song Bids Rise in Germany

Last updated : 13 March 2002 By Mike Reich
Song: Is he really a £5m man?
Rigobert Song is currently on loan to FC Cologne, and his move there has sparked up interest in a number of outfits on the continent, including Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen according to sources.

Such is the level of interest in the Cameroon captain, who plays in defence, that his price tag seems to have risen far beyond the £2.5m that Harry Redknapp paid for him. Whilst originally many Hammers feared that a loss would be made on the player, it seems now that figures of around £5m might not be too unrealistic - such is the impression Song has made in Germany.

However, the player doesn't seem all that happy with the way he was treated whilst at Upton Park: "I never got a fair crack of the whip at West Ham.

"A player who cost £5 million made mistake after mistake, but he stayed in the team. It is amazing I made one error but I was dropped while others stay in the team."
