Southampton Interested in Move for West Ham Full Back Ryan Fredericks

Southampton are interested in signing West Ham right back Ryan Fredericks, after having been alerted to the 'potential availability' of the former Fulham defender.

Fredericks, 27, joined the Irons in June 2018 on a free transfer despite the Cottagers gaining promotion to the Premier League in the same summer. The speedy full back has struggled for game time in his two seasons in east London, with injuries playing a significant part.

Fredericks has been in and out of the Hammers' side since his move from Fulham

According to Sky Sports, Southampton are on the look out for a right back with their options in that position depleted currently and have been alerted to Fredricks' availability.

The Saints recently allowed long serving full-back Cedric Soares join Arsenal permanently after an initial loan spell and the future of on-loan Kyle Walker-Peters from Tottenham is still uncertain - although it is thought that he will remain at St. Marys for next season.

After a slow start last campaign, in which he spent half the season out with an ankle injury, Fredericks has played 27 times for West Ham this season, contributing three assists. He spent a brief spell out of the side early this year due to a shoulder problem and the emergence of talented youngster Jeremy Ngakia. However, Ngakia has since left West Ham, with newly promoted West Brom among the favourites to secure the free agent.

Jeremy Ngakia impressed briefly before choosing to depart the club

The departure of Ngakia and veteran Pablo Zabaleta this summer has left West Ham short of depth at right-back so they may look to bring in a replacement before allowing Fredericks to depart.

Argentina international Gonzalo Montiel has been a target for the Hammers for some time, and now that their Premier League status is secured for another season, they are thought to be favourites to sign the River Plate full back, although no deal has been agreed yet.
