The 20-year-old Academy graduate has only made on solitary substitute appearance for the first-team in the final game of last season against Manchester City.
Described as a born leader and a star for the future, Spence has captained England sides at every age group up to the U-20’s.
It is thought that Spence may well be promoted to the senior squad to partner another Academy star James Tomkins at the end of the season if current club Captain Matthew Upson leaves the Hammers once his contract runs out.
