The former England hero told Sky Sports News, “At the start of this campaign, when he was very calm and collected and we were getting results, and everyone looked like they were playing to their capabilities, everything was fantastic.

“Things have gone a little bit wobbly and you question the way he is around the dressing room.

“I don't understand.

“It's all about dealing with the pressure that is put in front of you.

“He is under immense pressure the minute he takes the job as
England manager because there's 50 million people who want to be England manager and can pick a better team.

“He's the man who's got the job and he's got us to qualify for the World Cup, that's all you can do.

“He can only do the job in hand he's been asked to do and he's done it.

“So I would say he's coped very well with it.

“So we must have done something right; it can't be all bad. There's World Cups we've missed out on before. The lads and the manager have done a fantastic job to get us there and it's all about preparing for the World Cup now.”
