In a game that The Hammers dominated, Brooking's last one before he hands over the reigns to incoming boss Alan Pardew, they ended up relying on a late strike from Don Hutchison to gain anything from the match at all.

"It was a game and two points thrown away," said Trevor Brooking after the 2-2 draw with the Clarets.

"It was good that Alan Pardew was here today and it's good that he has seen how frail it is as well the positives.

"From seven home games we've only managed three wins and in this division that isn't good enough.

"Burnley worked hard to give them credit but we have to be more clinical up front. Connolly and  Defoe all get plenty of chances. I hope they put more away, but today we threw two points away."

"It's obvious that there's still a lot of work to be done between now and May."
