Upson out for 3 weeks

Upson limped out of his debut at Villa Park last weekend after only 28 minutes and initially thought he had done more damage than it appears.

West Ham's Head Physiotherapist Steve Allen revealed to the official site, “
Matthew underwent an MRI scan on Sunday that revealed a small tear in his gastrocnemius muscle, and the estimated recovery period is around three weeks.

”However, he has responded well to initial treatment and the injury is looking much better this morning, so we are hopeful that he might even be back sooner.”

Alan Curbishley's defensive worries have however been given a boost this week ahead of the Hammers' two forthcoming 6-point games against fellow relegation strugglers Charlton and Watford with the news that Anton Ferdinand has resumed full training this week and should be fit in time for this weekends match.
