Viborg 0-3 West Ham (1-6 agg): Hammers reach Europa Conference League group stage

West Ham United will compete in the group stages of European competition for two years running for the first time after beating Danish side Viborg in their Europa Conference League play-off.

The Hammers led 3-1 from last week's first leg at London Stadium and completed the job on Thursday evening with a fine display at the Energi Viborg Arena.

Gianluca Scamacca was on target once more for his new side to break the second-leg deadlock, converting at the near post from a Tomas Soucek cross.

Shortly after half-time, Said Benrahma added West Ham's fifth of the tie after some lovely link-up play with Scamacca and Maxwel Cornet.

Soucek got in on the act soon after Benrahma's strike with a close-range tap in to round off the scoring in Denmark.

West Ham will discover their opponents for the group stage of the Europa Conference League on Friday. Despite their run to the semi-finals of last year's Europa League, their lowly UEFA coefficient means they will likely have to settle for a place in pot two of the draw.

Other big names in the competition include Unai Emery's Villarreal - who won the 2021 Europa League and reached the semi-finals of last season's Champions League - Serie A side Fiorentina and French outfit Nice.
