West Ham 3-1 Viborg: Gianluca Scamacca scores first Hammers goal in Europa Conference League

Summer signing Gianluca Scamacca scored his first goal for West Ham as they beat Danish outfit Viborg 3-1 in the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday night.

The Hammers - who reached the Europa League semi finals last season - went ahead at London Stadium when Scamacca rose highest to head in Maxwel Cornet's cross.

Jarrod Bowen got his season up and running in the second half, drilling in from distance, before Viborg responded through Jakob Bonde's header.

However, Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio combined from the bench for the latter to net a tap in, handing the Irons a 3-1 advantage heading into next week's return leg in Scandinavia.

West Ham were without a number of senior figures on Thursday night. Captain Declan Rice, vice-captain Aaron Cresswell and manager David Moyes were all serving suspensions following a fiery exit from the Europa League last season.

Should they complete the job in the return fixture, it will be the first time in 56 years that the club have competed in European competition in back-to-back seasons.
