West Ham 3-3 Brighton: Report, Ratings & Reaction as Seagulls Complete Amazing Comeback

West Ham dropped into the bottom three after they threw away a two goal to Brighton to draw 3-3 at the London Stadium.

Both sides started the game well playing attacking football, but both wasted opportunities when presented to them with ​Aaron Mooy and Michail Antonio guilty of squandering chances early on. The Hammers were able to take the lead when Issa Diop slid in to convert from Robert Snodgrass' pinpoint free-kick. 

David Moyes' side were able to stay on top and double their lead before half time with a heavily deflected goal from Snodgrass. The Hammers fans were happy heading into the break comfortably ahead.

However, Brighton were soon back in the game after a horrible mix up from a corner saw Lukasz Fabianski punch the ball into Angelo Ogbonna's head and into his own net. Brighton couldn't build on the goal as Snodgrass soon restored the Irons' two goal lead with another deflected strike.

Brighton got themselves back in the game, however, after some shambolic defending again from West Ham. Pascal Gross capitalised on a host of defensive mistakes to create a nervous atmosphere for the home fans. The comeback was complete - after a lengthy VAR check - when Glenn Murray bagged his first goal of the season to make the score 3-3. 

Brighton were the more dangerous team in the final moments with plenty of chances to win the game, but they couldn't quite complete a truly remarkable Premier League comebacks.

The Hammers came into this precariously sat above the bottom three only on goal difference and this choke will not help to ease any fears at the London Stadium.

The Irons looked completely comfortable with 15 minutes left in the game but somehow managed to concede two in quick succession to throw away a two goal lead.


Their defence completely fell apart making mistakes left, right and centre. It eventually cost them what could've been a vital three points in the relegation scrap. With a tough two fixtures coming up, this could prove to be some very important points dropped by West Ham.

​West Ham have been lacking creativity throughout the season but they didn't in this game as Robert Snodgrass absolutely ran the show.

He provided a great assist for the opening goal with a superb free kick that needed the simplest of touches from Diop to give the Hammers the lead.​

He added to this by scoring both the second and third goals - both deflected strikes - but nevertheless he was the key man for the Hammers.

Key Talking Point

​Brighton had slowly been dropping towards the bottom three and were scarily looking over their shoulders. And it looked like it was going to get even worse up until the last 15 minutes of this game.

They showed great resolve to come back from 3-1 down to salvage what could be a very important point in the relegation scrap.

Of course, they got their fair share of luck with Ogbonna's own goal and West Ham's horrendous defending. The Brighton fans will be happy coming away from the London Stadium with a point to their name and creating a little bit more separation between themselves and the bottom three.

Star Player

Brighton weren't very good for the majority of this game - but still managed to come back into this game and could've even won it due to some excellent work from Pascal Gross.

Previously a fantasy hero, Gross has struggled to find the form he achieved in his first season in England but he was Brighton's best player scoring their second goal in this impressive comeback.

It was all Brighton with the last few moments of the game due to Gross' creativity and he will be key in the relegation fight for the Seagulls.

Looking Ahead

West Ham will want to recover from this but have a tough couple of games ahead facing Manchester City and Liverpool away in the ​Premier League either side of the winter break.

Brighton, on the other hand, return to the south coast in a huge game against fellow strugglers Watford.​
