After seeing him for a second time on trial, Glenn Roeder has decided to follow up on ex-Irons shot-stopper Shaka Hilsop's advice, and take Brent Rahim on loan.

The 6ft 4in midfielder, who has 26 caps for his native Trinidad and Tobago, was first on trial at West Ham a little over a year ago, prior to the start of Glenn Roeder's first campaign as Hammers boss. However, for reasons unknown, Rahim was not signed, and returned to his Bulgarian club, Levski Sofia.

The 25 year old was offered a loan deal however, after impressing in a behind doors friendly against Spurs. Glenn sounds fairly optimistic about the player, and says that he is a hard worker who has a 'genuine chance' of making it.

Roeder told the club's site: "He is a relatively young midfielder who has done enough in training since he has been here with us to warrant giving him an opportunity until the next transfer window.

"If he does well we will attempt to keep him, and if he doesn't come up to what we want we will let him go back to his club in Bulgaria. But if he doesn't stay beyond the New Year I can guarantee it won't be for the lack of trying.

"I haven't come across too many players that work as hard in training and try and impress every single day. When I spoke to Shaka Hislop about him he was full of praise and thought he had a genuine chance - so we have given him the opportunity."
