West Ham Interested in Wigan Athletic Centre Back Cédric Kipré

West Ham United are looking to dip into the Championship market once again as they eye Wigan Athletic defender Cédric Kipré.

The Hammers signed forward Jarrod Bowen from Hull City in January, while Ryan Fredricks arrived from Fulham in 2018 and the Hammers could look to exploit opportunities in the second tier again the same with Kipré.

The Frenchman has been in impressive form for the Latics since joining the club from Motherwell back in 2018, while he has also been on the books at Premier League side Leicester City.

The 23-year-old has made 30 appearances in the Championship this season for Wigan, leading to interest from West Ham, according to the Daily Star.

As per the report, West Ham could be set to take advantage of the turmoil surrounding Kipré's current side and bring the defender to the London Stadium.

Wigan have been placed into administration and thus could be forced to let go a number of their star names in order to raise some much needed funds.

In addition to Kipre, other Wigan stars who could leave this summer include youngster Joe Gelhardt, who has been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs.

The Star's report claims that goalkeeper David Marshall and Egyptian midfielder Sam Morsy are also attracting Premier League interest.

Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna have been the first choice defensive pairing this season

As for West Ham, their struggles this season have further reinforced the need to add new faces such as Kipré, despite the presence of Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop in central defence.

Diop is one Hammers star who could be heading for the exit door with a number of clubs keen on the Frenchman - with José Mourinho a notable admirer.

The report also suggests that David Moyes' side won't be the only club interested in his services, with fellow Premier League side Watford has also keen.
