West Ham Monitor Barcelona's Moussa Wagué Ahead of Potential Summer Move

West Ham are lining up a summer bid for Barcelona's Moussa Wagué, despite a move for the Senegalese star falling through at the end of the January transfer window.

Wagué was thought to be close to sealing a loan move to the London Stadium, however talks with West Ham stalled and the defender made a temporary switch to Ligue 1 side Nice instead.

The Senegal international will spend the second half of the season with the French club and Moyes plans to travel to Nice to monitor the full-back's progress, according to the Sun.

Hammers boss David Moyes is still optimistic he can bring the 22-year old right-back to east London and will renew his interest in the close season.

Manager Moyes has been assured money to splash in the summer window and Barcelona's asking price for Wagué is reportedly in the region of £16m.

Barça first snapped up the youngster from Belgian side KAS Eupen for around €5m, but the right-back has failed to kick on and his days at the Nou Camp appear numbered.

Following a stint with Barcelona B, Wagué was promoted to the senior side but he has been largely on the fringes of the first team, limited to just four appearances for the Blaugrana.

He has found himself down the pecking order behind the likes of Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto in Barça's right-back position.

But a successful stint in France could see the defender earn a move to the Premier League as Moyes looks to solve his ongoing right-back issue.

Pablo Zabaleta is in the twilight of his career and questions have been raised as to whether the 35-year-old can continue to keep up with the fast-paced tempo of the top-flight.

Ryan Fredericks has been Hammers' first-choice right-back this season, but the 27-year-old has come under mounting criticism for his performances in an Irons shirt.

The man signed on a free from Fulham 18 months ago, is accused of going missing in games and Hammers fans are frustrated by his reluctance to join up with attacks.

Wagué would definitely add youthful exuberance to the Premier League side's right-back berth and should West Ham stave off relegation, would be a welcome addition to their defence.
