West Ham to Consider Move for Real Betis Left-Back Alex Moreno - if They Stay Up

West Ham are planning a £36m bid for Real Betis left-back Alex Moreno when the transfer window reopens, should they maintain their Premier League status.

Although there are no concrete reports that the Hammers are Moreno’s main suitor, Estadio Deportivo claimed a mystery English club are preparing an offer.

This together with last week's reports in Grada3 that David Moyes’ side had been watching the Spaniard, suggest east London could potentially be his next home.

West Ham United v Manchester City - Premier League

Left-back has been a problem position for West Ham in recent seasons, with Aaron Cresswell showing his potential in patches and earning three England caps, but a lack of consistency has meant he’s never really held down the position fully. It’s a similar story with DR Congo international Arthur Masuaku who has never convinced Hammers fans since his £6m move from Olympiacos in 2016.

Moreno only signed for Betis last summer for €7m from Rayo Vallecano, but he’s impressed enough to warrant the Andalusian club holding out for his €40 million release clause should Premier League clubs come calling for the defender, who has four assists in La Liga this season.

The biggest factor in the situation, however, will be which league West Ham are playing in next season. The club are currently 16th in the Premier League, although they are level on points with both Watford and Bournemouth below them at the time of the league's suspension.

Should the club suffer relegation in the summer, there is no doubt that a €40m transfer for a defender would be the furthest thought away from the minds of club majority shareholders Sullivan, Gold and Brady as the club would have to rebuild from the ground up.

Should they remain in Englands top flight however, they may just snag one of the hottest properties on the European market today.
