West Ham have reignited their interest in Barcelona full-back Moussa Wagué, after they failed to reach an agreement on an extended deal for Jeremy Ngakia.
The Hammers initially lodged their interest in the Barcelona right-back in January, but a deal failed to materialise as the Senegal international opted for a move to French side Nice.
David Moyes had hoped to secure an extended deal for current West Ham right-back Ngakia, however, with the two parties unable to come to an agreement, it looks increasingly likely that the youngster will depart the London Stadium this summer.
With Moyes looking for defensive reinforcements should the 19-year-old fail to agree a new deal, the Daily Star report the West Ham boss has contacted Barcelona regarding the availability of Wagué.
The Barca-loanee managed just five appearances for Nice prior to the cancellation of Ligue 1 due to the coronavirus outbreak, and the French side are said to have passed on the opportunity to exercise their right to buy the youngster.
Barcelona are understood to be open to a loan deal or a permanent one if the right price can be negotiated.
The Hammers, meanwhile, returned to training earlier this week ahead of the projected Premier League restart date of 17 June.
The hiatus has allowed for some of the club’s injured players to regain fitness, including Ryan Fredericks. While the former Fulham man concedes things feel a little strange at the moment, he’s just glad to be back playing football.
“It feels strange to be back in training, as obviously it’s not normal circumstances, but it’s good to be back and have the ball at my feet again,” Fredericks said, in quotes carried in the Star's report.
“The protocols the club has in place give us the best possible chance to come back as safely as possible. With temperature testing, making sure everything has been disinfected and wearing gloves and masks, I am less worried about being back than I was before.”
