Perhaps things are not so bad

I know Cardif was a big disappointment.
I also know that without that money we could have a very bleak future ahead of us.

However, some of the signings that Mr Pardew made never really got a chance to shine for us last year due to the prescence of Carrick, Jamo and Deano.

I say Brian Deane because although he only warmed the bench week in week out, he still had a big impact on Pardew's tactics and formations.
His impact being that as he was availalable for selection, and that he is a player that most Division 1 clubs would like on the bench, Pards felt as though he had to include him.
He also seems to think that he shouldn't drop Bobby. As a result of these factors, Bobby was included in the team, and Deano occupied the bench.

The combination of Harewood, Bobby and Conners is a frightening thought, and therefore Alan felt as though all should be included. Hence meaning that Marlon had to be dropped to the right of the midfield - and as we all know, he was not happy there. Fair enough!

This year however, there is no Deano to complicate matters. In my humble opinion, he should drop the Z-Man to Deano's position on the bench. Promote Marlon to his rightful out and out strikers role and bring in the youngster Mcanuff.

This is what I mean by saying that some of the fringe players should get a good look in this year. We should see more of the like of Nowland, Mcanuff, Reo-coker and co. We may even find ourselves seeing Mullins promoted to his correct position in the middle of the park where in my opinion he performs his best.

Others include the youngster Cohen at left-back. He didnt' see much football last year, but what I saw of him, I think he looks brilliant.

All in all, we may be strapped for cash, but clever signings in preparation for a worst case scenario by Mr Pardew means that we will have one last shot at making it back to the big time!

Up the Irons and bring on Stoke!
