West Ham have responded to England striker's doubts over his future by pledging to offer an improved long term deal by the end of the week.
The highly-rated striker had earlier told skysports.com that he wasnt certain of his Hammers future but still indicated his wish to stay at the Boleyn. 24 year old Ashton has 2 years remaining on his contract and has bagged 11 goals this season on his return from long-term injury."As far as I know I'll be at West Ham. The only worry is that the club haven't spoken to me yet so I don't know where I stand," said Ashton.
"Obviously I'd like to speak to the club about my future. I'd just like to know where my future lies. I had to prove myself after spending so long out injured and I feel I've done that now.
"West Ham is the team I play for. I want to talk to the club because I've really enjoyed myself here and that's all I'm really thinking about."
Today a statement appeared on the club website with CEO Scott Duxbury revealing that a new deal is in the offing come Friday.
