At the Business End

In an interview with the Bishop's Stortford Citizen, AC said:

"I think I've got a squad that is young, agressive, quick and hopefully can play a bit.

"I'm pleased with the players we've brought in and hopefully, we can bring a couple more in, because I want to do that.

"Time to get the cheque book out again"

"People have left this week which have squared up what we've spent, so it's about time we got the cheque book out again; Nigel Reo-Coker, Tyrone Mears, Paul Konchesky, Marlon Harewood, Yossi Benayoun - it's £20m I think.

"The chairman and the chief executive were adamant we got the prices we wanted and I think we have. We've covered our outgoings, which is something I'm used to doing at Charlton, but not what we're trying to do here.

"It got to the end of the season and some players felt that they wanted to leave and we said okay we'll sort something out.

Yossi: "His head was turned"

"I didn't want Yossi to go, we didn't need the deal, but his head was turned once Liverpool came in.

"Now I'm convinced that all the players we have here want to be at the club and I'm looking forward to working with them."

Upson, Ashton, Gabbidon

"Upson had just 30 minutes worth of football for us, Gabbidon was constantly injured after I came and Dean hasn't played for the whole season, so we add that to the people we've brought in and we're glad they've got through the hard stuff.

"If you look at the side at the moment, we've got U21s, we've got young players. We've bought young players. We've bought agressive players. We've bought hungry, angry players and experienced players. I'm pleased with the business we've done and the players we have here."
