In an embarassing turn of events, Mike Ashley has trumped his club over the proposed selling price for Dyer. This signals the Newcastle owner's intention not to part with any of his own money as he tries to drum up more funds for Sam Allardyce's spending.

West Ham could look to Derby's Giles Barnes as a replacement should the fee be deemed excessive by Eggert Magnusson.
