Murray trys to cling on to Young

Over the past week Alan Pardew has made his interest known in Charlton's club captain and England International fullback, Luke Young.

Charlton fury followed as Young made a transfer request which they believed was in direct response to the Hammers' having 'unsettled him.' Young told the BBC: "I've grown increasingly frustrated with the way contract negotiations have been conducted by Charlton."

A move across the capital seems likely as West Ham are reportedly willing to offer 3.8 millions pounds, and even though Charlton chairman Murray is determined to hold onto him, new boss Iain Dowie is unlikely to want an unsettled player in his side as he tries to prepare his squad for a more successful season than this time around.
