Zamora the scorer - Anton out for 3 months?

The Hammers were defeated in scorching heat which effected both sets of players. Zamora struck early but his goal was cancelled out when a last-minute winner from Marcus Berg went past Jimmy Walker in the Hammers goal.

Disaster struck on 20 minutes when Anton Ferdinand had to be removed from play suffering from a hamstring injury. Reports say that he has gone for a scan and the results will be released soon, but commentators are estimating Pardew's promising young defender will be away from the action for as long as three months, meaning an unlikely return until late September or early November. James Collins should provide fine cover after a number of canny displays for the Irons last season but the injury may call young Jonathan Spector into the limelight sooner than we originally thought.

Danny Gabbidon missed the match through a slight groin concern, AP resting him to be safe, but the welshman should be back to full fitness well in time for the next friendly and more importantly the new season.

The first half saw a number of chances for the Hammers, Harewood going close on two occasions. Zamora put in excellent work to get his goal, teaming up with midfield maestro Yossi Benayoun to finish from 7 yards.

Jon Paintsil the Ghanian right-back had an impressive game as he looks to become Alan Pardew's fifth summer signing.

Hammers lineup:
Walker
Painstil, Ferdinand (Noble 25), Collins (Mears 75), Konchesky (Stokes 70)
Benayoun (Ephraim 62), Mullins (Clarke 55), Fletcher, Reid
Harewood (Sheringham 62), Zamora (Ashton 55).
