Result: West Ham 2 - 0 Charlton

There were a lot of opportunities for both sides in this match, but it was West Ham who converted them, and Charlton who spurned them. The Hammers went ahead via a penalty - won and converted by the man who made his 100th appearance for West Ham, Paolo di Canio.

Fredi Kanoute made it two in two games when he finished off an excellent move started by Cole. The second half produced just as many chances, but no more goals - although Charlton will rue their missed penalty less than 20 minutes from time.

The Hammers move up to seventh, after both Aston Villa and Tottenham - who we face next week - both lost.
