QAZ's end of season player reviews 2004/2005

Last updated : 10 July 2006 By Plymouth_hammer

Stephen Bywater - A few big mistakes between the sticks but that may have been the nerves of Jimmy Walker breathing down his neck all year. Not a bad season though, all in all. - 6.

Jimmy Walker – A solid ‘keeper who did well throughout the whole season. Best save of the season in the Carling Cup 3rd Round match against Chelsea when he saved Frank Lampard’s penalty. Did well during the final of the play-offs despite getting injured. - 7.

Tomas Repka
- A great season for the much loved and also hated, Czech defender. In my opinion this has been his best season so far since joining from Fiorentina. He looked very solid during the Play-Offs game and was one of the best players in the final. Never scored for west ham and almost did in the final but hit the post. - 8.

Anton Ferdinand
– A fine season for him and now he’s about to live his dream of competing against his big brother Rio. Battle of the Ferdinand’s” should be good but hopefully Anton will come out on top just like this season. He got his first goal for the club in the game against Watford which sealed our Play-Off place. - 7.

Elliot Ward
– A wonderful first season in the first team and did very well along side his counterpart Anton. He had some quality performances against the likes of Darren Bent and Shefki Kuqi in the first leg of the Play-Off semi-final. - 7.

Chris Powell
- The gentleman of football did very well for the Hammers. There were some good performances and i think he’s a quality, all round left back. - 8.

Mark Noble
- Come through the youth system and did very well. He’s still to net his first goal for the club despite almost scoring on his debut against Norwich in the FA Cup. One for the future. – 8.

Matthew Etherington - Did well against Ipswich in the Play-Off semi final games where he tore their whole defence open but through the whole season he only show glimpses of his enormous potential. - 7.

Sergei Rebrov
– Thing’s never really worked out for the little Ukrainian who only scored 2 goals. One against Watford and the other against Notts County in the League Cup. I think he should of been given more a chance in the his favored centre forward position. - 6.

Hayden Mullins
– It was a very up and down season for Hayden who joined from crystal palace 2 years ago. He’s scored a few goals when it counted and put in a few good performances but not enough to secure the firm backing of all the Hammers faithful. - Only a 6 for Hayden.

Carl Fletcher
- Good signing by Pard’s and one that paid off.

He got the winning goal against Cardiff city back in early February to get the hammers back to winning ways. A good solid season for Carl who’s also broke into the Welsh national team set-up. - 8.

Nigel Reo-Coker
- The winning captain on May 31st against PNE in the Play-Off final. Some good performances and he’s now cemented a regular place in the first team. A brilliant captain who sets a good example to the rest of the squad. He’s only a young player but he has a bright future ahead of him. - 8.

Steve Lomas
– Done well but looking nothing like the old Stevie Lomas the west ham faithful were used to seeing. He’s had too many injuries. - 5.

Luke Chadwick
– He was in decent form at the start of the season but seemed to fade during the final stages. Luke picked up a nasty injury just after Christmas and he never really seemed to recover enough to make a huge impact. - 6.

Don Hutchison
- Still the forgotten character at the club and I think he should be released this summer. He’s paid too much money and does not enough play. - 4.

Malky Mackay - He did score on his home debut against Ipswich but he’s never really settled at Upton Park. His age and fitness always seem questionable. - 4.

Christian Dailly
– The Scot was injured for most of the season but came on too huge applause in Cardiff. Hopefully he’s recovered well from a career threatening injury. - 4.

Rufus Brevett
- Lost his place in the first team to Chris Powell and never really challenged for it back. One amazing goal against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road last September! - 4.

Marlon Harewood
- Did well throughout the season scoring 17 league goals. He formed a decent partnership with Teddy Sheringham early on and then formed an even better one with Bobby Zamora in the final stages of the season. He set up my goal of the season for Bobby Zamora’s second against Ipswich in the Play-Off semi-final. – 8.

Bobby Zamora
- Got the confidence knocked out of him during the first part of the season and nearly moved to Palace in January. Thankfully he stayed and helped send West ham to the Premiership with a stunning brace against Ipswich and then the only goal of the game against Preston in the Play-Off’s. He’s a Hammer at heart and it showed with his performances during the Play-Offs. - 9.

Teddy Sheringham
- Quickly became a fans favourite by scoring 20 league goals. The ex-England Striker, who’s acquired many honours from the game and proved to be Alan Pardew best signing. The 39 year old has signed a contract extension to stay with the Hammers in the Premier League. - 9.

Alan Pardew
- Did well and vowed to get us promoted and he certainly did. His formations and tactics do seem to amaze and confuse some fans but he got it spot on during the Play-Offs and he deserves to chance to manage the club in the Premier League. - 8.
